Live each day with a smile, it makes such a difference ........
As your aware now I cannot have re construction for some years to come, but, what Dr Stephenson did offer me was some liposuction to be taken from my stomach area if I could put some weight on and this would be injected into the top of the chest wall to fill it out slightly.
Wow, the charity After Breast Cancer Care the ABC with some of the funds raised they had purchased a new machine purposely for this proceedure.
Now the Tamoxifen medication I take daily which keeps all the estrogen out of my body has several side effects. One being it puts weigh on you which I hate after always being so fit. But it meant by putting some weight on I could have this proceedure.
There is obviously no guarantee it works but at lea my body would not reject it as its my own fat just being moved from one part of my body to another.
This operation can be carried out a maximum of three times. Thats what we went for the full three goes, maximum effort, maximum effect.
The operations are only a couple of hours long each time but its the healing again afterwards of the not able to pick anything up for weeks as it can damage the area they have injected with the fat or cause it to move to unwanted areas. So it meant I had to be good for a few weeks.
As I was getting married April 2018 I wanted it all done for our special day. So November was my first operation for this. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came around from the anesthetic. I had four holes in my tummy and two in my chest wall. Felt a bit like a pin cushion.
Battered and bruised for a few weeks until the next operation in January 2018 when I do it all again.
I was back to hospital visits for dressing changes. Wasn't painful at all but then my chest is completely numb and has been since the first operation as all the nerves and everything are damaged. The stomach area feels tender but thats understandable.
Both operations six and seven were the same. One in January and the other in late March weeks before we married in April 2018.
I definately think it has made a difference to my upper chest area. Before these operations it was concave and I struggled to wear vests . Everything had to be very high necks to disguise the fact. Now I am able to wear vests and clothes with slighly lower necks like T. shirts so I am happy.
Anyone who is unable to have re construction I would recommend this proceedure for you. It certainly has given me a little of my confidence back. Their is no guarantee it will stay as it is. If you loose weight it can dissapear into the rest of the body but I certainly think it was worth the three extra operations.
If you have any questions please feel free to drop me a message I am more than happy to answer any questions, give advise or just to listen.
