Black Nails
I was lucky enough to have a wonderful nail technician who would keep my nails looked after for the whole way through my cancer journey and still does today. Ania has become a wonderful friend and I am so very grateful for her. Every three weeks straight after my chemo I would pay Ania a visit for her to re-do my nails for me.
They have to be black throughout chemo to try and save them from falling off. It protects them from sunlight. Chemo is very drying to your tissues, your nails can become brittle and yellow. Dry nails will break and crack easily. Your nails stop growing through chemo if they are not protected with dark nail varnish they nail can lift and completely come away from the nail bed, this then can be a site for bacteria to enter and cause infection.
This is why without fail I would book in with Ania every three weeks. My nails were never good so they really didn't need any excuse to just die on me.
We went through so many black designs by the end of the treatment. But my favourite are the ones on the picture above.
